Bitter Brewer / Cellar Manager

Full Time.  $15-$30/hour depending on experience.  Health insurance, 10 Days PTO, 5 days sick leave, flexible hours, Covid safe, and stock options.

The Bitter Housewife is a Woman-Owned Business seeking a Bitters Brewer and Bitters & Soda maker/canner.  Your primary role will be brewing our bitters and Bitters & Soda, bottling, canning and labeling. You will also be ordering raw materials to keep the operation running, managing upkeep of equipment, and maintaining quality control throughout all aspects of the bitters brewing and cellar processes.

Reports To: CEO

This is a great role for someone who likes to solve technical problems, figure out systems, and take ownership of their responsibilities. As a vital core member of our team, you will be foundational in helping us build on our culture and make a real difference in our company.

We are open to hiring either an experienced cellar manager or the an entry level person with the right energy, work ethic, and appetite for technical work. This is primarily a physical operation, but also requires work in our computer systems, excellent communications skills, ability to see thru technical problems with pumps, fluid flow, glycol systems, etc.  

Salary depends on experience and skills. There is room for career growth and options to become a part owner of the company.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support The Bitter Housewife's mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality per company policy.
  • Support the safeguarding of raw materials for quality assurance and for accurate inventory.
  • Purchase ingredients and maintain inventory levels.
  • Work with team members throughout the bitters brewing, racking, and packaging process.
  • Chilling and carbonation of product
  • Monitor progress of bitters and bitters & soda through the production cycle.
  • Operates small canning machine.
  • Coordinate / schedule mobile canning company.
  • Work on the line on mobile canning. 
  • Handle empty cases and cases with finished goods
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks; drive forklift as needed. If not certified before employment will be certified within the first month of employment.
  • Inventory reconciliation.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and maintenance logs.
  • Perform required sanitation.
  • Perform regular housekeeping for all bitters brewery areas.
  • Perform and maintain accurate inventory and record keeping daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned throughout the bitters brewery to assist other team members as needed to accomplish goals.
  • Provide assistance in other areas in the absence of another team member.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of brewing industry, packaging line, and forklift experience preferred. We are open to training the right person.
  • Attention to detail and patience for the brewing process to achieve high standards of quality.
  • Mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • A willingness to contribute to all areas of the bitters brewery as needed with a positive attitude.
  • Reliable transportation for work.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends, and holidays.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis.
  • While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat).
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments.
  • Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside and frequently lift 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
  • Must be able to use a 24 foot ladder and be comfortable accessing the roof.
